John 4:39

The Perfect Mate

I’m not a coffee drinker first of all…I must be crazy.  Well let me rephrase that, I would drink coffee with a bunch of sugar, lots of cream, and a scoop of whip cream on top.  But generally I don’t ever drink coffee.  But today as I was scanning down my Instagram, a picture popped up, and the caption read, “Coffee’s New Perfect Mate.”  And this is the picture it showed.

Now this looks delicious!  I mean I may really enjoy some coffee soaked in this creamer.

The phrase stayed in my mind, “The perfect mate.”

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, the day of love.  The day we not only eat lots of chocolate but we give cards to those we love and let them know how special they are to us.

I remember the first year that I was alone, without a mate for Valentine’s Day.  My sweet friend brought me some flowers and a card, and yes some chocolate.  It was the sweetest thing.  I so appreciated her wanting to make sure I knew I was loved that day.

Tomorrow will be a great day for you and your “mate” to say, “I love you,” whether that be over a nice dinner, with a card, or perhaps with flowers.  This is the day that all across the world “I love you” will be celebrated in a special way.

But honestly the only “Perfect” mate, the only one who is perfect in everyway, is Jesus.  For me He is the perfect mate.

He is the epitome of love.

His Word says in I Corinthians 13,”Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails…And now  these three remain: faith, hope and love; But the greatest of these is love.”

Jesus paints the perfect picture of what love is.  I mean He laid down His life for us when He willingly died on the cross.

His life on earth shows us how He wants us to love others.  Oh to love as Jesus loves.  That should be the theme of our lives.  His love is the purest of loves.

Jesus loved the woman caught in adultery as much as He loved the disciple He called, John the beloved.

His love that lives in me causes me to reach out to those around me, those He places in my path and His love for me causes me to love them, as He has loved me.

Jesus, because He is the perfect mate, pursues me, and runs after me, and loves me with an everlasting love.

He rejoices with me in this life, and He also convicts my heart when I need to be convicted because His love is the only perfect love.

He walks and talks with me daily, and He is my dearest friend.  He cares when I am grieved, and He holds me in the shadow of His wings when I need to rest.  He is the lover of my soul.

He sings a love song over me…

Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.  He will take great delight in you… He will rejoice over you with singing. “

I love to sing.  There are so many days I sit down at my piano and sing to my Lord.  It might be…

Oh the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of God.  Oh it chases me down, fights till I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine.  I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still He gives Himself away, Oh the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.

Or it may sounds like this… Oh how He loves you and me, oh how He loves you and me, He gave His life, what more could He give, Oh how He loves you, Oh how He loves me, Oh how He loves you and me.

Or perhaps this song, The greatest of all love songs, I want to give to you, so I’ll let my words be few… Jesus I am so in love with you.

My heart is always overflowing with love for Jesus as I sit and sing praises to Him.  I love Him so.  He is my all in all.  His love is all I will ever need.

So today as I have been writing notes and sending cards to give those I love, I had to stop and thank the giver of life, the one of who loves me like none other…His name is Jesus.

As I celebrate love on February 14th, I will start my day with Jesus, the love of my life, because for me He will always be the perfect mate.

See you back here really soon.  I can’t wait to share all that God has been speaking to me with you.

Oh and I thought you might want to see a picture of me and my Valentine…

My grandson is the best Valentine!

What does this year hold for you?

Happy New Year!!! 2019 has arrived. A new year full of new adventures. That is exciting.

I ended my year by doing a few things I really enjoyed. I decided to paint my piano room. It has been the same color for over 15 years, and I just redecorated my living room, so every time I looked in there at the dark color, I hated it, and knew I needed to paint it. So Saturday I decided to go buy the paint and do just that! The new color is a beautiful light blue. It changed the whole tone of the room to use this color. The dark floors look gorgeous, and the dark piano stands out beautifully with these light blue walls. It was hard work, but the reward is a beautiful room that changed drastically with a gallon of paint and a little time and determination. The color is tranquil, peaceful and calming. I just love it!(Ignore all the piles of music I have sitting everywhere, yikes!)

living room

That is how my year is going to be, peaceful and calm. Do you know how I already know this? Because the Bible tells me that Jesus is the calm before the storm. He is the peace that passes all understanding. He is the Great Shepherd. He is the healer. He is a God that restores and rescues. He is the God who redeems. He is close as the mention of His name. When I call on Him, He runs to me. He hides me in the shadow of His almighty arms of love. When I need guidance, I talk to Him, and He keeps my feet on His path.

When I am sad, I can call on Him, and He will place a song of joy in my heart. When I don’t think I can go on, on the days when the pain is great, He will hold me in His arms, and when I am weak, He is strong. His Word tells me I will run and not grow weary, because He goes before me.  He hems me in!  Nothing is too big for my God to handle.

The way I can know that this year is going to be amazing is because Jesus is my peace.  Jesus is my joy. Jesus came to give life, and give if more abundantly.  Jesus is whom I seek when life gets tough.  I will choose to spend time with Him daily. When it’s so early and I don’t want to get up, I will get up and read His Word, and I know that He will give me just what I need for that day. When it seems the road is too long and I can’t make it, I will call on His name, and He will deliver me to His safe haven. When the enemy wants to steal my joy, I will say, “Back away devil, I am a child of God, and you are not welcome here!”

On my darkest days when I choose to look to God, the day just isn’t so dark. The night isn’t so long. When I decide to truly trust Him in everything that comes my way, I can lie down in peace, knowing He is and will take care of me.

There’s a song that says…

In the calm of your presence I am listening Lord, I am still I am quiet, I am Yours.

My year is going to be great because I am a daughter of the most high King and He loves me more than words can tell.

The second way my girls and I ended the year is by going to Dollywood! We love the mountains in Tennessee. The day was gorgeous and when we arrived at Dollywood my youngest daughter decided to go ride the Wild Eagle rollercoaster first thing. Every time during the year when she had thought she would ride it, she would change her mind, because the fear was greater than the desire to ride. But this week, she conquered her fear and flew through the air on the Wild Eagle! When she came down after the ride I couldn’t wait to see what she thought. She was smiling ear to ear! She loved the ride, and guess what? She decided to ride it 4 more times! Fear was no longer a problem. She had a blast and was so proud of herself. All day she kept talking about how much fun the ride was. It was a great day!

Dollywood 12/31/18

This year you can choose to live in fear, to carry the weight of your burdens, to wonder if you will even be able to smile at all this year, or…you can decide today that this year will be wonderful because you are a child of the King of all Kings, and Lord of all Lords, who delights in you. You can choose to hide His word in your heart, so on the days when the enemy wants to take you down, you too, can say, “Get lost devil, ain’t nobody got time for that!”

The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness…Galatians 5:22

I do not know what 2019 has in store for me. I may be faced with some hard days, or I may not. I have not idea. But friends, I serve a faithful God who knows what each day holds for me. He has been faithful to me in every situation in my life. He has never forsaken me, not once. Following Him is a wonderful journey. Trusting Him brings peace to every day of my life. Though I don’t know what the year will bring, I know the one who holds my future in His hands, and that’s enough for me.

I am planning to read through my Bible this year. I’ve done this in the past, but as I received an email from several leaders of my church saying they were reading through, I decided to join in. Will you join me? I will keep a copy of the daily reading schedule on my website so you can stay caught up. Hiding His word in your heart, reading His life changing Word, will bring you peace and calm.

I am so excited to dive into 2019! Are you? If you aren’t, for whatever you might be going through, Christ is the answer. Lay it all at His feet, and let His peace flood your heart. Let the calm of His presence fill your soul today!

Go back to the top and look at picture of my piano room.  The tranquil, calm, peace that color brings that room, Jesus will bring to your heart all year long.  He is our peace, He is the calm in our days, and He will lead you along green pastures today and all year long.

Come and see what the Lord has done, the amazing things He has done on the earth. Psalm 46:8

I look forward to sharing my year with you!  I will plan to see you back here next week.

A Song of Praise

I was reading my Bible earlier, preparing for a speaking event that’s coming up.  I want to share with you what Jesus spoke to me as I read His word.

In my distress I called to the Lord: I cried to my God for help.  From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came before Him, into His ears. Psalm 18:6

Friends, this song David penned is amazing, wonderful words of life.  Read that verse again!  I’m in awe that the God who created the stars, who numbered the sand in the sea, who lives in the Heavens, hears my cry for help.

Doesn’t that just stop you in your tracks?  God comes to you and I when we call on His name.  Not just sometimes, but all the time, every time!  He doesn’t have a limit and say, “I’m not coming, you’ve called on my name way too much!”  No my God runs to me every time I all His name.

My cry for help comes to His ears!  This is a verse of sheer victory!  There’s no other name we can call on that can run to our side, calm our storm, scoop us up in their arms of love, and bear our pain.  Only Jesus can do that for you and for me!

So while I was sitting here praising Him for who He is to me, I decided to share this with you.  I pray this verse encourages your heart this afternoon.

Take some time to sit at His feet, and worship Him today, simply for who He is to you.

He is my Lord and my God.  My King.  My Father.  My Redeemer.  My Protector.  My Defender.  My Rock…and so much more.

Have a great afternoon sitting at His feet.

John 4:39

This morning I drove up in the parking lot of my work and remembered I had failed to drop off a bag of trash I had in my back seat, so I drove over to the dumpster in the parking lot of my office.  When I got out of my car, over behind the dumpster sitting on a little bridge was an older man.  As I walked back to my car I heard Jesus whisper to me, “Give him some water.” The man’s clothes were worn and tattered, he sat staring down at the bridge.

I grabbed a few bottles of water I had with me, and went over and ask if he would like some water. To my dismay He replied, “No thank you.” I offered again, and again, he replied,” No thank you, I don’t need it.”

I drove away wondering why He didn’t accept my free gift.  Why he didn’t want the water?

Then I said to myself, “I’ve done my part, I had made the offer.”

As I went into my office and began to work, I couldn’t get this man off my mind.  I began to think, “I need to offer Him the gospel.”  I prayed for him but I felt I needed to offer Him the gospel, the living water.

I said to myself, “Finish what you started, you’re not done, offer Him everlasting water.”

I typed out several verses for Him.  Verses about how Christ cares for us.  A verse about hope.

Then I shared the gospel with him on this paper.  I let him know how easy it is to ask Jesus to live in your heart, and how He alone can change your life.

I went back to the bridge but he wasn’t there, so I taped my paper to the bridge for him. Now I will pray for another opportunity to speak to him face to face because I found out today, that little bridge is his home.

Then I began to think on all the people all over this town, this state, this country, this world who are waiting for us to offer them just a cup of water in Jesus’ name.  They need us to offer them LIVING WATER…

A sweet young friend of mine is leaving in a few months to head back to Kenya where God has shown her, this is the place He has for her to give a cup of water in His name

She has a heart for the young boys on the street there.  So rather than sit,  she is going to be the hands and feet of Jesus and offer them not only a home off the streets, but she will take every moment to share Jesus with them.

Then my mind shifted to my friends who gave up their home and life here to minister in China for 10 years. Oh how many opportunities God gave them to give a cup of water in His name…

They not only built a church from nothing, but they took in orphans, and made 2 of them permanent members of their family as they adopted them.  What a difference they have made for Christ for all eternity.

I read recently of a lady who gave monthly to two kids in another country.  She decided one day to go and see them, and God burdened her heart for people around the globe who need food and water while she was on that trip and saw the needs of so many.

She came back and started an organization where she helps people in America and all around the world, by simply asking others to skip something they can do without and give to the cause of another.  I love that!  She is giving a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name.

You and I who have accepted Christ as our Savior are His disciples.  It’s that easy!

How can you make a difference today for Christ?  Who can you give a cup of cold water to?

Sometimes we make the gospel so complicated, when it’s very simple.  By loving others, which may look like volunteering, going to another country to serve on a mission trip, or sharing a bottle of water, we are sharing Jesus.

Friends we must step out and begin to share the gospel with those we come in contact with.  People are all around us who need to know Jesus.  It’s why we are here on this earth.  He created us to serve Him, love Him, and share Him with the world.  water

Whether it’s in Africa, China, Haiti, or the USA we are all His disciples.  Isn’t that exciting?

How can you and I make a difference today, an eternal difference?

When Jesus stopped by the well in Samaria, he asked the Samaritan woman for a drink.  Rather than insisting she pour Him a drink, He began to tell her about living water.  He now had her attention.  She began inquiring as to what he meant.

He began to share with her, “Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst again.”

In that one phrase, he took the conversation from everyday water to everlasting water.

She accepted His gift that day, and an entire town saw the change in her, and they wanted this living water.  An entire group of unbelievers found Jesus that day!  What a story of how Jesus changes everything.

Who does Jesus have in your path today? Perhaps you too can step out and offer them the life changing gift, the everlasting gift, the gift of life only Christ can bring them.

John 10:10 says “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

The only hope in this world is Jesus.  Let’s take every opportunity we have to share Him with this world who desperately need to hear of His love for them.

Let’s go and live Matthew 10:42 today.  It will change not only the lives of those that accept Christ as their Savior, but it will change us as we share His love more and more.  Sharing the love of Jesus puts a smile on my face, doesn’t it yours? Yes! Guess what? It will put a smile on theirs as well.  That’s what a changed life looks like, one huge smile.water2

Who will you give a cup of cold water to ?

See you back here soon.
