John 4:39

I Need You, Jesus

Tammy24Today has been one of those days…you know what I mean?  The days where everything you touch breaks…then you spill your breakfast on your shirt… You know the kind of day I’m referring to right?

My morning started great.  My time with the Lord had me on my feet praising Jesus early this morning.  Nothing could bring me down.  Then I was sitting at my desk thinking about writing a blog during a break, when suddenly I felt a migraine headache coming on.  The first thing that happens is I lose my vision for about an hour.  I went and sat in a dark room in the back of office, praying and asking God to touch my head and help this headache to move on quickly.

One of my devotion books took me to Hebrews 4 this morning.  I’m going to quote this to you from The Message, sometimes the way the writer worded the scriptures helps bring them to life for me.

We don’t have a High Priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all- all but the sin.  So let’s walk right up to Him and get what He is ready to give.  Take the mercy, accept the help.

Hebrews 4:15-16

Our God wants us to come to Him with every need we have.  Isn’t that awesome?  He wants me to bring my migraine headache to Him, and let Him take care of me.  When His Word tells us to bring every need to His throne of grace, it is saying EVERY need.  There is nothing too big or too small for God.  He wants us to talk to Him about it all.

As I sat in the back office with my head down on the desk, I began to talk to God about the things on my heart.  Probably the things that led to that headache.  I sat there peacefully talking to God, not after the headache had passed, but in my moment of weakness.  You see that’s when we need to call on His name, right in the middle of our need.  Because I know He is waiting to meet my need, it’s silly for me to bend beneath the load when I could just lay it down from the beginning right?

So do you believe He is enough for your every need? Do you believe He has all the grace you will ever need?

God is longing for you and I to bring every need we have to Him.  So many times we think we have to carry the load all alone.  Oh if you could see, before the weight becomes so heavy you are crumbling beneath it, you need to talk to your Heavenly Father and let Him bear your load.

The verse above tells us our High Priest has walked where we have walked.  When Jesus walked on this earth He experienced how it feels to hurt…He knows not only where I am, but He experienced pain too while He was walking on this earth.

A few years back my family and I went to Disney.  I took a backpack full of snacks and water to have during the day while we were in line to snack on and to save on money.   I was so happy with this great idea, until I realized how heavy the backpack was when I put it on.  Every time we stopped or got in a line, the first thing I would do was take the backpack off my back and lay it down.  It was sooo heavy!

Maybe today you need to set your backpack down, and let Jesus carry your load.

I love verse 16, Let us approach God’s throne of GRACE with confidence

This means because I know God is for me, because I know His grace is sufficient for my every need, because I know my hope is in Him and Him alone, because I know He will meet my every need, when I do have a need, I go running to Him immediately, because I know at His feet He will pour His mercy and grace over me, and meet my need.

Christ and Christ alone is all we need!

I love the song  FOREVER REIGN

Oh I’m running to Your arms, I’m running to Your arms

The riches of Your love will always be enough…

You are here, You are here in Your presence I’m made whole

You are God, You are God of all else I’m letting go…

Is there something on your heart today you need to talk to God about?  Are you carrying a heavy load you need to lay at His feet?

Take off running right now to His arms!  My friends how much more joyful our days can be knowing we don’t have to carry our stuff around!

May I encourage you that He is smiling, waiting, and ready to meet your need.  I can just picture Him eagerly listening as I share with Him my needs, and how He lovingly places His arms of love on my shoulders, and without hesitation He lavishes His grace on me.  Isn’t that a beautiful picture of the grace of our Lord?

Well my head is feeling much better, because Jesus touched me, the moment I asked Him to!  My heart is joyful because I know for every need I have, I can run to His throne boldly, knowing He is all I need!

This song I’m attaching I’ve gone around singing all morning!  I joke a lot about the only thing I need in this life is Sonic sweet tea, but really the only thing I need in this life, is Jesus!

See you back here next week friends.

He Calms the Winds and Waves

waves_3This past week has been full of unexpected catastrophic storms in the United States.  In the Houston area thousands lost their homes and belongings as Hurricane Harvey brought flooding to Texas.  Then in Florida we all waited and prayed as Hurricane Irma was on the move, and destroying everything in her path.  Florida had thousands upon thousands evacuating to other states to wait out the hurricane.

We prayed as we watched the Hurricane as it came closer to the states.  Meteorologists everywhere came to the same conclusion, this hurricane would devastate Florida like no other hurricane had in years.  Though I live in Tennessee I watched all the reports and prayed specifically for those I knew who lived in the path of  this hurricane.

Then as it grew closer it began to go down to a class 3, then a class 2, and then a tropical storm.  It did bring devastation to many areas, and flooding came with the high winds and rain, but not as the weather reports had thought it would be.  It was nothing like they thought it would be.  Was this just sheer coincidence as some would say?  No, our Almighty, Heavenly Father is the one who calms the storms, He is the one who says, “Peace be still.”

In the gospel of Mark in chapter 4, we read about a day when the disciples became fearful because a great storm had come upon the waters.  They were scurrying about on the boat, thinking that at any moment the boat would become a pile of wood under the huge waves that were hurling the boat to and fro.

This whole time, Jesus was asleep on the boat.  They ran to wake Him, wondering why He wasn’t coming to help them.  They said, “Don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up and told the winds and waves, “Be Quiet! Be still!” All at once the sea became calm and the wind died down.

The disciples stood in amazement.  I mean they had been with Him, they had seen the power He had to heal the lame, make the blind to see, but in the midst of this storm, they forgot all of that, and they became afraid.

Isn’t that how it is for us.  We can teach the kids about the stories of His miracles, but the moment a storm comes our way, in the midst of the storm, we forget just who God is, and we began to doubt Him, and His power, and we become afraid.  We lay awake at night wondering what we will do. Just like the disciples our faith begins to waver.

But He reminded them that day just who He was. They saw that even the winds and waves obeyed His voice.

Though they had walked with Him, now in their hearts that day they truly found out just who He was.  They would never be the same again.  His power came alive in their lives!

He is the creator of the universe, and the lover of our souls.  HE is the one who put the stars in place, and calms the raging winds in my life.  He gave living water to the Samaritan woman that day at the well, and He gave living water to me.

I could testify over and over of all the times He has flown to my side.  He has calmed the raging waters in my own life time after time.  He drew me out of the deep waters, and drew me to Himself, and I will never cease to thank Him.  He is the giver of life!

Whatever storm is raging in your life, it is NOT too big for God to handle.  He will calm the storm!  Do you believe that?  Do you trust Him?

Rest in Him today and know He sees you, He loves you, and He is with you in the storm.  Call His name and let Him calm your heart restless heart today.  Sometimes He causes the storms to cease in our lives, but sometimes He just walks with us through the storm.

Do you remember the Nestea commercial about taking the Nestea plunge?  That’s what we have to do.  Fall back, let go, and fall into the arms of Jesus.  Take the Nestea plunge into His arms today!

Take the Nestea plunge into the arms of Jesus

So Hurricane Irma was calmed by the hand of God.  He is the one who caused the winds to die down, and the waves to lay back down in he ocean.  Let’s give Him the glory that is due His great name!

He is the master of the sea!  Call on His name today wherever you are, and He will calm the storms of life that toss your soul.  I don’t care if it seems impossible, He does the impossible.  He will calm your storm! Call on Him today.

Even the winds and waves obey His voice.

Leave a comment of a time Jesus calmed a storm in your life.  It is encouraging to others to hear our stories!

I will see you back here next week.

John 4:39

I’m so excited.  REDEEMED: The Power of Our Stories is almost here.  We are getting so close to SEPTEMBER 29TH! If you haven’t already, plan to be with us.  We have so many wonderful things lined up.  I love to go to women’s conferences with my girlfriends, so I’m pumped up about this event.  A room full of ladies worshipping together, what a beautiful picture!  We will sing to our Heavenly Father as He sings over us.

We will celebrate together the power in our stories.  Just as God used the stories of Peter, Paul, the woman at the well, Rahab, Ruth, and all those others in His word, he uses our stories! Isn’t that an awesome thought?  These stories you will hear are powerful! These women are gonna bless your socks off(as we say in Tennessee)!

I can’t wait to share with you the message God has laid on my heart for this event!  John 4:39 is my ministry verse and I believe it, “Many will believe because of ONE woman’s testimony.” Whose life could you touch by sharing your story?

Grab your tickets at the link below, grab a friend and meet us there at Thompson Station Church.  It’s going to be amazing!!!!

Anybody Anxious Today?

Anybody Anxious Today?

It happens to the best of us.  Anxiety takes over, worry sets in, and peace is no where to be found.

My daughter had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy recently.  I expected it to be a quick and easy recovery.  Boy was I wrong!

We’ve had many sleepless nights, many moments where I stopped and prayed over her because of her pain.  It was agonizing to watch her cry with excruciating pain.

I kept praying and saying, “God I am begging you to please help her stop hurting!”

I am a woman who trust’s God with everything, who prays regularly, and studies His Word. Yet in a split second, a moment of intense agony, I began to let worry set in.  It happens quickly doesn’t it?

I found myself at 2 am on Google trying to see if it was normal for her to be in this much pain, and was there something else I should be doing.  If you’ve ever Googled a sickness then you know, before you get off you could find out you are dying!! Goodness!

At that moment God stopped me and said, “Calm down and trust me, I have her in my hand.  The pain may be great, but it will end, and she will be fine.”

Then this verse came to my mind…

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with prayer and supplication, make your requests known to God. Philippians 4:6

I felt the sweetest peace come over me as I remembered that I didn’t have to worry because my sweet Lord had my daughter in His hand.  He reminded me that He does all things well and I just needed to sit back, relax and trust Him.

I placed my hand on hers and began to pray over her, and in that moment I was so thankful that I don’t have to be anxious because I do know in whom I believe in, and as the old hymn says, “I am persuaded that He is able…”

What are you anxious about today?

You may be in the middle of a painful situation and it’s here that worry is setting in.  Stop!  God will show up right on time.  It’s often in the middle of the pain that we grow and our relationship with Him becomes more intimate.  It is here He reminds us the pain won’t last forever!

Remember that even King David became anxious sometimes, as he sat in the cave and often when he was on the run from Saul.   He knew that God would deliver him, but even King David was human just like you and I, and he would sometimes find himself overwhelmed.

From the ends of the earth I call to You, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2

Like me, maybe you needed this reminder today, that there is nothing happening in your life or mine that God doesn’t already know about.  We can trust Him with every issue that is overwhelming our hearts right now.  Anything that is causing anxiety within.

Stop, recite these verses, and talk to God. Then like me you will experience His sweet peace sweeping over your soul.

Happy day my friends.

PS: Go over and grab your tickets to the Women’s Night of Worship on September 29th! It’s going to be great. I hope to see you there!

Let It Be Jesus

The other day I was looking up punch recipes for a baby shower when suddenly my computer became contaminated with a virus!  After scanning the computer we felt it was best to just install a new box I already had in the office.

I got the box installed and began to install the programs I would need for my job.  The ONE program I really needed would not come up.  I tried and I tried, but to no avail, it would not work.

I came to one of those moments where I wanted to scream!  My frustration had reached an all-time high for the day.  In my frustration I said aloud, “God, please help this program to work this time!” I pushed the button, and…it began to work.

I sat frozen at my computer as God began to speak to me.  I felt oh so small in that moment.  Why had I waited until the frustration had built to call on Him?

Yet God reminded me in that moment of a blessed truth…

Whenever I call on His name, He hears me, and He answers

Yet, had his name been the first name that I had called, I would have saved myself all of that frustration.

Isn’t that how it is in the bigger messes of life?

We find ourselves trying to figure out the solutions to the problem before we ever talk to God about it.   Whether it’s a job change, a sickness, a relationship problem, loneliness, financial issues…we wake in the night perspiring with this weight sitting in the front of our minds.

God wants us to come to Him  first with all of our needs.  No matter how big or how small.  We don’t have to lie in bed unable to sleep, or going through our day like a robot because our minds are a thousand miles away still trying to work it all out.

We simply must learn to lay every need at His feet as they come.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

I was so thankful God reminded me sitting at my computer that He hears me when I call.  He is just waiting for me to talk to Him about my every need.  He has the answer and He will meet all of my needs in His time and in His way.  I don’t have to doubt, I just have to trust Him with everything in my life.  No need is to small or too great to bring to my wonderful Lord.

Cast all your cares upon Him; for He cares for you.  I Peter 5:7

God cares about every part of our lives.  He longs for us to talk to Him just like we talk to our spouse or girlfriends or our mothers.  I feel such a peace after I pour my heart out to God.  He lifts the burden and tells me, “My daughter I love you and I know your need before it comes your way.  I have the answer, so just trust Me.” Relief then floods my soul as the weight lifts from my shoulders and falls into the arms of Jesus.

Right now whatever you are carrying, lay it down at the feet of Jesus.  May you and I remember in the time of need to let Jesus be the first name we call.

I love the Christy Nockels song, Let It Be Jesus…

Let it be Jesus, the first name that I call

Let it be Jesus, my song inside the storm

I’ll never need another…

May that be our prayer today.  Perhaps right now you need to stop what you’re doing and go talk to God, as I did at my computer.

Read Matthew 6:25-34

I hope you have a marvelous week.  I will see you back here next week.  If you haven’t already, go sign up for my weekly encouragement by leaving your email address.  I have a new book I’m working on as well as a few other surprises.

reaching2 Chronicles 7:14, If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My Face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

This morning I’ve been spending time in my Bible studying on prayer.  It is stated over and over,

Prayer changes things and it changes me…

So often we seek out prayer as a last resort, rather than knowing it’s our greatest defense in any battle.  We spend hours worrying, strategizing, trying to come up with a plan.  We have to shift our thinking, we have to spend more time in God’s Word.  Every time something comes to our mind, we must learn to talk to God first.  Because I want you to see how exciting it is, when He answers, and when those answered prayers change us.

I think I know the Number 1 thing that keeps us from it.  Yep, I think I know.     The first thing we must do is BELIEVE that He hears and answers.  It’s our lack of belief.

If you know my story, I was a stay-home Mom when my life fell apart several years back.  I had been married almost 25 years when my husband decided he wanted a divorce.  My husband was addicted to pornography and our marriage had been sinking for years.  I was caught up in an emotional affair with a man who counseled me. The relationship ended along with my marriage. I was a hot mess and had no clue how I would survive.

All I had known was being married. I had been married since I was nineteen years old. Though it wasn’t a healthy marriage, I guess I felt safe there, I was used to it. But inside I was miserable.

I saw no light at the end of the tunnel.

I felt because I had shamed Christ, He would not hear my prayers, nor restore my life. Along with the shame I felt from my sin, I had been very hurt by two men.  I felt hopeless. Life seemed hopeless.

I had prayed with countless women through the years.  I had seen God move mountains in the lives of friends and strangers.  But now I felt that it would be impossible for Him to come through for me.

When I didn’t have the strength to pray, when all I could do was cry, God was listening.

I had countless friends on their knees on my behalf, crying out to our Heavenly Father.  They did not cease in their prayers.  Day after day they cried out, believing that He was listening, believing that God moves mountains, that God would answer their prayers.

I was standing in my living room one day, and I was just at the end of my rope, when a verse came up on my phone…

After you’ve suffered a little while, the God of all grace will confirm, establish, strength, and RESTORE you…

My friends can I just tell you, that HE did.  He pulled me out of a horrible pit and He placed my feet upon the ROCK.  He HEARD the cries for help.  HE answered.

God provided the perfect job, the perfect friendships, finances, emotional health, and so much more. But more than all of that, He restored to me the joy of my salvation.  The storm drew me into a intimate relationship with Christ that I didn’t have before the storm.  He did the impossible in my life.

He did the IMPOSSIBLE in my life

When we see the disciple’s praying in Acts chapter 1, they had just endured a horrible storm.  Jesus had died on the cross, and they had gone through the emotion of watching Him die.  But then He had risen from the dead, and ten days before this He had ascended into Heaven.

Now they were in the upper room praying, praying and praying some more.  They didn’t know what life would look like from that moment on, but they knew they had walked with Jesus, and they trusted that He would guide them, that He would hear and answer their prayers.  So for every need they remembered, they stopped what they were doing and prayed. They went to throne of God first…

In chapter 2, Peter stood in the crowd and preached one of the most famous messages.  They watched more than 3000 come to know Jesus that day.  They knew one thing for certain, the one thing that would cause all of their prayers to be heard and answered.

They believed that He did and would hear their prayers

They knew that much prayer = much power, and no prayer = no power.

They had walked and talked with Jesus, and even though what they witnessed was unbelievable to some, they believed and knew though He wasn’t physically with them any longer that He would guide them, He would speak to them through prayer.

Today we too have this privilege.  The old hymn, What A Friend We Have In Jesus

What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer.

I don’t know what you’re praying about today, but I want to encourage you to go to God with every need.  He invites us to His throne.  He wants an intimate relationship with us.  He wants us to trust and believe that He is there and He hears us when we call.

Watching Him meet my every need has changed me.  It has drawn me into a deeper relationship with Christ.  My friends it’s really true…

Prayer Changes Things, and it changes me

I will see you back here next week, and until then, let’s spend time praying for one another, praying for our country, and praying for God to heal our unbelief.

Reflect on: Psalm 130:5, I wait for the Lord, and in His Word I put my hope.

Romans 12:12, Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Philippians 4:6, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Still Waters

still waters
Still Waters

Like me, I’m sure there are times you find yourself in a place where your heart and mind are sinking in despair. Perhaps you had an unexpected crisis come up and quickly worry took over in your mind.

I was chatting with a friend this week about this very thing. As much as we are true Christ followers, there are just times when anxiety and fear grab us and before we know it our minds are running away and we quickly become overwhelmed and anxious.

It’s a place we often go isn’t it? Perhaps like me your mind has been racing, wondering either how to fix a situation, or how to provide for your family, or how to get it all done. How will your marriage ever work out? Will the cancer spread? Will I ever heal? Will I find the job I desperately need? Where will I live? Will my children ever love me because of my mistakes?

It may be a place of feeling the pain from the past, or worrying over things beyond our control happening right now in our lives. All I know is it comes quickly and in these times I begin to realize where I need to quickly take myself to recover. I know I need to run into the arms of Jesus. It is in His Word that I begin to feel those anxious thoughts flee.

This morning I was thinking on things in my own life that were creating worry and fear. As I prayed God took my mind to the verse in Psalm 23… He leads me beside still waters

As I walked around my office at work the verse just lingered in my mind. So I knew Jesus was speaking to me. He was drawing me aside and calling me to the still waters He has to offer.

He didn’t say in Psalm 23:2 that He was leading me beside turbulent waters. He never says that He is leading me beside raging rivers, no, He bids me to come rest beside the still waters.

What a picture I paint in my mind of this. Go here with me for a bit. I picture myself walking beside this beautiful water, where I see waterfalls flowing, and I am sitting on a rock taking in all of this beauty. I can hear the water gently flowing as a breeze is blowing across my face. Then I began to feel the Hand of Jesus on my shoulder, I look up to see Him smiling at me. He tells me to just lean on Him during those hard times, and talk to Him about all the things making me anxious. So I begin to share my heart with my wonderful Lord. Then I begin to feel this peace flood my heart. He reminds me here beside the still waters that He is in full control of all of those issues flooding my mind, and He tells me He knows He hears me and He will take care of me. So together we sit hand in hand quietly listening to the birds sing, the water flow, and in my heart sweet music is playing. The worry subsides.

Isn’t that a beautiful picture of what Jesus does for us?

Recently I was having one of those anxious moments, when God placed one of my favorite people in front of me. I didn’t need to tell her about my worries, I was just so glad she was there. I was so thankful at that moment God had sent her to be my still waters…

God sent her to be my still waters last week

Today take your anxious thoughts to the throne of God. Lay them in His hands, and walk with Him beside the still waters. It will be bring tranquility to your heart today. The exciting thing is, this is not a one trip deal. No…. He bids us come sit with Him all the time. There’s no place I’d rather be than sitting with my Jesus beside the peaceful streams of living water. What a sweet Heavenly Father we have. Take some time to go sit with Him today beside the still waters.

Reflect on Psalm 23:2 He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.

See you back here next week.

I know you ladies can relate with this video I did this morning.  My outfit almost ruined my day… but God placed Galatians 5 before my eyes…see if you can relate to this video.

Leave me a comment to let me know what do you do when your day starts out bad? We can all help each other, so share with us what God gives you to get you through.

I pray this video is an encouragement to your day!

My Eyes Are On You

addict2Do you ever have those days when you just think you can’t go on?  Do you have days when the weights of life are pulling you down, and you just don’t know what to do or how to go on? Everything that could go wrong, is going wrong.  Yep, I know exactly how you feel.

We all have these days from time to time.  I was reading in 2 Chronicles 20 this morning about a man who felt the same way as you and I.  His name is King Jehoshaphat.  At the beginning of the chapter he is very perplexed about the army he has been told is coming against them.  It wasn’t just any army, but a VAST army. They were on their way, so there was very little time to prepare for battle.

I’d say when he heard that an army twice the size of his was coming after he and his people, he was pretty alarmed! I know I would be shaking in my boots!

Yet as alarmed as King Jehoshaphat was, he stopped to inquire of the Lord. He didn’t run around shouting, and panicking. No he stopped to talk to God.  This was the most important thing he could do with the news he had been given.

We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us.  We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. 2 Chronicles 20:12

When Jehoshaphat didn’t know what to do, he knew the one who did.  He called upon God for an answer to his need.

Then the Lord began to speak to them, and they listened!

Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army.  For the battle is not yours, but God’s.  You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you… Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all of the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord.

King Jehoshaphat did just as the Lord instructed.  He trusted Him completely with this battle.  I love that after God gave him the instruction and told him He would deliver them, Jehoshaphat fell down and worshiped Him.

He went ahead and claimed the victory before the battle was ever fought!

He placed the singers at the front of the army!  I just love this!(especially since I sing)   They went out to battle singing praises to the Lord.  This is what they sang:

Give thanks to the Lord for His love endures forever.

While they were marching and praising they arrived at the place that overlooked the desert where this vast army was, but they only saw dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped.

Well somebody say Glory!

I love this story.  It reminds me that all I need to do is trust the Almighty God for deliverance.  No matter the need, He is the answer!

It also reminds me that when we praise Him, when we are caught up in worshipping God, we forget about the anxiety we were feeling worrying over the battle.

What battle are you facing right now in your life?

Take your need, give it to the Lord and know He will fight for you.  If it’s an addiction, He will break the chains that bind you.  If it’s sickness, He will heal you.  If it’s financial issues, He will come through.  If you’re alone, abandoned and forsaken, He will walk with you.  He is all you and I need in any battle we face.  addict1

All we have to do is simply trust Him, and keep our eyes on Him.

You see King Jehoshaphat called on the name of the Lord before He ever went into the battle.  He didn’t wait and call on God as a last resort, no!  He knew where to go first thing!  Straight to God for the answer to the need!

Oh what a reminder for me today!  I don’t need to worry and fret but take every need to my wonderful Lord first thing, lay it down at His feet, worship Him because He is worthy, and then get up and claim the victory and go ahead and praise Him!

Oh my, that makes me what to shout!  My friends wherever you are today, and whatever the need, remember to take it to the Lord and let Him fight your battles.  Oh my the peace I have in my heart today.  There is nothing too big for God to handle.

Abraham says in Genesis: Is anything too hard for God?

Today claim 2 Chronicles 20:12, Lord I don’t know what to do, but my eyes are You.

Now get up and start praising Him.  Put on some music and let His love saturate you today.  It’s praise time! Deliverance has come from your battle, claim it! That’s cause to dance for Jesus!

I look forward to meeting you back here next week.
