The day after Thanksgiving we always put up our Christmas tree. The kids hang their ornaments that they have bought and made through the years. It is an exciting night every year.

I don’t always get all the decorations out of the attic, but there is one that always makes its way to the living room. That is our Christmas village. My second child, Cole, since he was a little boy has always loved putting up the Christmas village. He would stand there and help me place them and play in the snow. He would pick the people up and walk them through the village. He even used his hot wheel cars so they would all have cars in their driveways! Day after day he would pull a chair over and stand there and play. Year after year we would add a new house to the village. His little eyes would light up each year when it was time to go to the attic and bring it down.

This year Cole is nineteen years old. He came home from college and we already had the village up. He was disappointed we had not waited on him to put it out. He looked at it and talked about the way we had placed the buildings and where the cars needed to go. It brought back precious memories to watch him still love that little Christmas village. Who would have thought many years ago that this little village would have brought so much joy to our Christmas’?

This morning I was reading my Bible, as I read Psalm 27:13, I had to stop and read it again. It says, I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord….

I don’t know about you, but there are many times when life has come at me and I have wanted to give up. Since I am human, there are times I want to just throw my hands up and say this is too much! Oh but then God reminds me of the past and the goodness He has shown me. He reminds me that He has not forsaken me. Those are precious times, to sit and close my eyes and reminisce of all the ways God has provided, as only He can. I would have lost heart …. But God! He always meets my needs, so I can believe and know He will continue. I have seen the goodness of the Lord demonstrated in my life time after time. Isn’t it exciting to think back on all the He has done for you?

If you are having a hard time today and you want to give up, please stop and quote this verse aloud… I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord! Thank Him right now for where He has you and for the goodness He not only has shown you in the past, but He will continue to show you, over and over. That is how precious you are to God!

As I looked at our little Christmas village today, I had to stop and thank God for His goodness to my family. When I look at the village it makes me smile thinking of all the joy is has brought through the years. Don’t lose heart today, stop and remember the past and thank God for His provision for you and your family and know this same God will continue to meet your every need.
